This year the University of Alabama in Huntsville will host the 2012 New Music Festival in conjunction with the Southeastern Composers League on Feb 10-11, 2012.

Composers are invited to submit up to two scores (8-10 minutes maximum) for the festival, to be held February 10-11, 2012, at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra will select from the submissions one 8-10
minute piece for performance in their concert February 11.

Composers are encouraged to provide their own performers. UAHuntsville faculty, students, and friends are also available with standard orchestral instruments, piano, and voice.

Additionally, the following ensembles will consider compositions for performance at the festival:

Chamber Choir (SATB)
Wind Ensemble
Flute Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble
Trombone Quartet
Brass Quintet
Woodwind Quintet
Bassoon Quartet (could include contra)
Huntsville Symphony Orchestra*

Requirements:
• Composers must agree to attend the festival for their works to be performed.
• No more than two submissions per composer.
• Each composition should be a maximum of 8-10 minutes.

Submissions:
· Electronic (only) submissions should include PDF scores and MP3 recordings.
· Computer realizations will be accepted.
· Program notes not longer than 250 words
· 250 word vita
· No paper scores or physical recordings, please.
· All submissions must be received by October 1, 2011.
· Notification of acceptance will occur by November 15, 2011.

* Submission requirements for orchestral pieces for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (HSO):
• Duration of eight to ten minutes
• Maximum instrumentation is 2/2/2/2 4/2/0/0 timpani, percussion, harp, and string count of 12/10/8/8/6. String orchestra works are welcome. Works using less than the maximum instrumentation are acceptable.
• Concerto-type works will not be considered
• Professionally produced scores (2) and parts (meeting industry standards) must be delivered to the orchestra on or before December 10, 2011.
• The composer shall appear at the concert and, as mutually agreed, some of the rehearsals, and shall be available to the HSO for mutually agreed-upon community engagement and pre-concert activities. The HSO shall incur no appearance fees.
